WCA Needs Your Help in 2012:
A Letter From Our President
January 3, 2012
Dear Friends and Supporters,
As most of you are aware, our home-place, Westport Presbyterian Church, experienced a devastating fire last week. Pictures, stories and interviews have filled the media describing the loss of an historic building and a committed community resource center whose past is as immediate as the evening of December 29.
But the Westport community is primarily about the present and the future, staying on our feet and going ahead. Westport Center for the Arts activities continue as scheduled, with minor, necessary adjustments. The events pages are now updated with new locations for the Mostly Foreign Film School, Brown Bag Concerts, Reader’s Theatre presentations and Kids Team Up for Art Workshops. Notice also our new mailing address and telephone number (on the right).
The loss of supplies and equipment is inconvenient. But as an art center, we really have not lost our two most valuable assets. The first is all the creative people who bring us music, film, literature and visual arts. The second is people who want – and need – to experience them. And those are the assets that we can continue to grow, together.
Here is what is needed to do that:
- Your financial support to help us keep artists, musicians, writers, actors and workshop leaders at work in our community. Small amounts add up quickly.
- Audience attendance of events offered at affordable prices. Often free.
- Aid in the education of young artists and audience members. Let’s keep the arts coming.
- Your patronage of the generous businesses and organizations which make it possible for our activities to continue. Buy a cup of coffee, a cookie or a cookbook.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our many upcoming events.
Very truly yours,
Jeanne Murphy
President, Westport Center for the Arts
